Back to School

Some moms do a happy dance on the first day of school.  Not me.  No, I'm a big punk.  I didn't cry but I came pretty close.  Sending my youngest off to middle school was harder than I imagined it would be.  It was confirmation that there are no more babies in my house and a reminder that time does, indeed, fly by way too fast.  I take solace in the fact that I know we made the most of summer, creating the kind of memories that will spark nostalgia whenever he smells ocean air or tastes kettle corn...

Kadir, on the other hand?  Oh my gosh, he couldn't wait to get to school!   He was super stoked about this new adventure!  He let me walk him to class held my hand while doing so (fingers interlocked as he's done since he was about two) before he paused to ask if he looked like a baby.  I reminded him that he's still MY baby and he shouldn't let anyone make him feel any type of way about holding his moms hand.

All day long I was anxious and fought the urge to leave work early to be there waiting as soon as the bell rang to let school out.  I resisted, of course, but I couldn't wait to hear about his first day of school, hoping it would be everything he'd hoped it would be.  Thankfully it was!  He excitedly filled me in on all the details.  About the new friends he'd made.  About how much he liked his teaches.  Oh- and how much better the food was than in elementary school (that's important, right?).

Things are off to a pretty good start.  It's going to be a great year!
