TV Review: Nail Files

Recently I had the pleasure of visiting The Painted Nail to meet with salon owner and star of Nail Files, Katie Cazlora to learn more about the show. Nail Files is a new reality show that follows high-energy, outspoken Katie as she juggles the task of running the salon, growing her "eco-chic" nail polish line and her relationship with her music producer fiancé, Walter Afanasieff all with the help of good friends and an equally charismatic staff.

So... a reality show based around a nail salon? I know. But this ain't your mama's nail salon. Nail Files is produced by the creators of Jersey Shore and The Painted Nail caters to A-list celebrity clientele from Vanessa Williams to Vanessa Hudgens so look to see a lot of famous faces.

Why I love it? The show is a lot of fun. Katie is always "on" and great to watch. But what I really, really love is that I can enjoy my beloved mani/pedis again. Knowing what I now know about harmful chemicals used in pretty much every other salon has deterred me from getting regular treatments. Thankfully, not far away, nestled in the heart of Sherman Oaks, California, is this fabulous green salon, using Katie's own 4-free (Vegan, Cruelty Free, Paraben Free and certified by PETA) "The Painted Nail" lacquers which are also available online. If you live in the area I highly recommend a visit and try the Ice Cream Sundae pedicure!!

Viewers can get a taste of luxury on the Nail Files mobile spa tour where they will enjoy a preview of the show and receive complimentary salon services (and possibly meet Katie herself). Visit the the Facebook site for tour schedule and locations.

Nail Files premieres June 21st at 10:00pm ET/PT on the TV Guide Network.

  1. Ok, i hate to post anything other than a positive comment, and maybe i would actually save it to speak directly to Katie. So here is a short version... There first off are so many reality shows out there that this one really gets lost in the mix. The drama and speculative aspects of it come from the chaos in running what should be an up scale salon without the slightest knowledge of how to do so. Leaving the business end up to someone barely out of high school (or what appears to be) Katie is constantly making herself look like a fool. I don't believe that is who she is quite obviously or she would not have a show. The whole idea of celebrities patron-ing the salon is crazy to me and can only be staged by a publicist because it is not the type of place that merits such attention. I'm not trying to be overly critical, but I owned and operated a salon for 15 year and was in the industry for more that 25 years, and I see a lot of wasted time, effort and money. Just from lack of experience. Send me down to manage and you'd have a whole different show,...LOL. Anyway.. you asked for opinions, ..there is my $0.02.
    Peace ~
