Solo Goes Bare

Solo, the brand long synonymous with disposable tableware has gone green with their new sustainable line of products, Bare by Solo. The line consists of sturdy 10-inch round renewable dinner plates made with bamboo; compostable dinner, lunch and desert plates made with annually renewable sugar cane; 18oz recyclable cups made from 20% post-consumer recycled plastic; and 14oz compostable cups made from bio-based plastic.

I learned of these just in time for holiday parties and although availability is currently limited to select test retailers, I was able to pick up the renewable plates at my local Target this past weekend. I was impressed! The quality is excellent. The plates are strong and durable- standing up to the likes of burgers, corn on the cob and baked beans. They're also microwaveable, so they're great for leftovers.

Because the plates are free of bleaches, dyes, inks and fragrances, fewer processes are used to make them which means less energy is required to manufacture them. Adding to it's eco-forward appeal, Bare by Solo has partnered with Keep America Beautiful to increase awareness of the importance of environmental responsibility. "Donations from Bare will support educating consumers about litter prevention, waste reduction & recycling and community beautification."

Bare by Solo is available at Target stores or visit the company website to locate additional retailers.
