Health: Personal Care

If you're like me, you've probably been using the same brand of feminine care products since being inducted into womanhood. It sort of becomes a part of the monthly routine. Only when I began exploring healthier and greener ways of living did I discover Seventh Generation's chlorine-free tampons and maxi-pads.

I was actually looking for a better laundry detergent on Seventh Generation's website when I learned that they made tampons from certified organic cotton, whitened without bleach and free of rayon. What had I been using?? I didn't even know that bleach was used to whiten conventional tampons! Not only is it unnecessary to bleach tampons, but chlorine bleach creates a harmful chemical byproduct called dioxin- a known carcinogen that has been linked (even in small amounts) to cancer, endometriosis, low sperm counts and immune system suppression.

As far as performance, I can't deny that I was skeptical. I was not confident that they would be as absorbent as my old faithfuls. So I tried them and put them to the test and was pleasantly surprised. I haven't noticed any difference from my old brand. They're available at stores like Whole Foods or online at the Seventh Generation Gift Shop.

Yes ladies, we have healthier a alternative! Why not use a product that is better for the environment and better for you?
