Yesterday was one of those perfect days. The sun was shining, the sky was blue, birds were chirping and all of that. So I thought to myself, why not walk to pick the kids up from school? I've lived in this neighborhood for nearly five years and the school is only about a mile away, but I have always driven to drop off and pick my two school-age children up. However, with all this talk of making greener choices, I thought I'd better put my money where my mouth is. So I filled up my reusable water bottle set out.
Aside from the obvious benefits of being great cardio and reducing harmful carbon emissions, it was a great way to explore my community. I discovered two businesses I had no idea even existed and they're right around the corner! Additionally, I got to meet other parents from the shcool, saved gas and didn't have to search for parking. Even the kids got a kick out of walking home for a change. All those positives, and I can't think of a single negative.
Next time you have to run an errand in your neighborhood, instead of grabbign the car keys, why not take a walk instead?
